Welcome to SJC photography!

I hope that you enjoy your visit as much as I have enjoyed capturing these images. Most of these portfolio photographs have been taken on or around my home on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. I will try and explain where each photo was taken, and what Focal Length, aperture and speed I used. Most of my work is done using the ISO 200 standard, which I find has a good balance between speed and non-graininess.

I have split my albums into their main sections which can be selected by clicking on the corresponding tabs found above. If you have any questions or queries then please don't hesitate to contact me using the contact tab.

About me! My name is Steve Cheeseman and I was born in Wales in the late 70's, I'm married and enjoy going for walks. I am a current serving Merchant Navy Navigation Officer, operating on ferries from Liverpool to Belfast. My interest in Cameras and photography developed as I grew older, learning eventually to operate my Father's Olympus OM-10 camera. Moving on I got my first automatic SLR with film, then a handheld Digital Camera with 3.2 MegaPixels and recently (2006) I moved onto my Canon EOS 350D 8.2 MegaPixel digital SLR camera. I have a couple of lenses, these are:-

  • Canon Standard 18-55mm Lense
  • Canon EF USM III 70-300mm Zoom lense
  • Canon 100-400mm Image Stabilised 'L' Series Lense
The majority of my shots are taken with the 100-400mm lense, as this offers the best chance of getting "close" to subjects, with its 1.8m focal length, even at 400mm it opens the world of photography up to new possiblities, easily moving from a closeup photo of a bumblebee collecting pollen, to a fast jet roaring overhead in seconds. Coupled with the image stabilisation allowing me to take photos at 1/40 second handheld at 400mm makes this a fantastic addition to anyones array of lenses.

Other equipment I use is a 4 Gb memory card & battery grip pack. I found this grip pack very helpful when using zoom lenses as it moves the centre of gravity back towards the user, so I am not struggling as much to stop the front of the lense 'dipping'. None of my photos have been touched up with photoshop, or altered, apart from cropping and resizing!

My other interest is the collecting of military medals, for my online collection please follow this link Hall of Medals.co.uk

My main two websites of information on whats about is Wild about Britain and North Wales Birding. For the jets I use UK Harrier list & Friends of the Red Arrows, an up and coming Forum and website - you need to know about the Harrier, this is the place!!
